In the communication between two queue managers that use different code pages, where does the translation of the WebSphere MQ message header is done????
A user exit,
The transmission queue,
The message channel agent,
or The communications link

Please have a look to the Application Programming Guide:
'When necessary, MCAs convert the message descriptor and header data into the required character set and encoding. Either end of the link (that is, the local MCA or the remote MCA) may do the conversion.' |

The application that does the MQGET should do the convert.
The channels (MCAs) should not, even though they can. You should only ask that the SENDING MCA does the convert (CONVERT_YES on the channel) if the receiving QM does not support the sending QMs code page.
I have never heard of a receiving MCA doeing conversion. _________________ Peter Potkay

The Xmit header and msg desc. contains target queue right, expiery etc. ??
And Peter when you're going from a ASCII to EBCDIC platform must the receiveing end know which queue it have to put the message into, and for how long it have to stay there...
There are also a difference in the way bits are interpreted on z/OS vs. intel.
