The table space ( default- userspace) on the user database we use, keeps going to "backup pending" state and then any command that accesses any table with this table space fails with the error " access to table space not allowed." a backup of the tables space resolves the problem ...until it recurrs again.

Any idea what would cause the table space to go from normal to backup pending state?

Was there any backup scheduled at the time this error occured? We came across same error sometime back. At that time our DBA was taking some kind of backup.
