WMQ 5.3 CSD05
SunOS 5.8
Something strange is going on and I hope someone can shed some light. Here's the setup. I created a script that runs every few hours. It looks in AMQERR0x.LOG files to find oldest log needed to RESTART and RECREATE the queue manager and then deletes logs that are no longer needed.
Whenever it finds the RECREATE pointer is behind the RESTART pointer (pretty frequently on busy systems), it runs "rcdmqimg" to move the RECREATE pointer up.
This script has been in place for a couple of years on all our systems (various levels of MQ and CSDs, various operating systems - Sun, HP, AIX) and works well in keeping the log filesystem clean.
On *one* system (WMQ 5.3/CSD05, SunOS 5.8 ) we ran into problems with rcdmqimg conflicting with the user's application, and so I disabled just the rcdmqimg part of the script. The weirdness is that I still see the RECREATE pointer moving to newer logs from time to time.
As a test, I disabled rcdmqimg on a couple of other similar systems, and the RECREATE pointer does not move.
Any ideas why the pointer seems to move on its own in one place but not move without intervention elsewhere?
Kick it around awhile and I'll check back on the 26th; meantime I'm off for a week in Scotland! |
