Hi ,

What is the best practice regarding creation of execution groups . My client have AIX machine , 2GB RAM with 1.45Ghz CPU(single). He is asking for recommendation about the number of execution group he can create.

He want to setup policy for his organization , one execution group , multiple messages OR multiple execution group multilple message.

Thanks
KKB

Open up the Help Contents from within the toolkit and search for "Configuration problems with a large number of components". There's some useful information in the Problems with performance section.

Also check out the small chapter on Parallel Processing Options in the WBI/AIX Performance supportpac: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/integration/support/supportpacs/individual/ip69.pdf

Which version of WMQI/WBIMB you are using?

You can define any number of EGs within your Broker. But it becomes difficult to manage/deploy large number of EG's. Try to split your message flows into smaller groups and then define those many number of EGs.

[KKB] I am using version 5.x of WBIMB. The main question is , does it make sense to have multiple execution group in one CPU machine ? Is there any recommendation in creating a number of execution group ?

Multiple execution groups do not guarantee better performance on a single-cpu machine.

But there are still reasons for using multiple execution groups on a single machine.

One of the main reasons is fault/change isolation. For instance, you have a business critical flow that needs to be running as often as possible. With two execution groups, you can deploy new or changed objects without interrupting this flow. Also, if you find that a message flow gets stuck somehow, you can kill one execution group and keep other flows running.

Also, the new Access Control List functionality in version 5 allows you to separate administrative functions into different groups. So you can have multiple administrative groups with different accesses to different execution groups.
