Hi
I am trying to find some documentation regarding upgrade of mqseries from 5.2 to 5.3 on solaris, aix and windows platform which will explain:
a) pre-upgrade steps and things to consider from operating system point of view before migrating.
b) how will it affect existing channels, queues in both distributed as well as cluster environment.
c) effect on authorisation data, log files (linear).
I know that in general terms,IBM recommends that we uninstall old version and fix packs before installing new ver.I tried searching for detailed documentation on their site but couldn't find any.
It would be of great help if you all can provide me some links to general concept of upgrade.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Thanks for the links. I had checked those...They just have a small section on migration. They have not explained problems which might arise during or after migration.
I also checked "support" pages at IBM website :
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/search.wss?&tc=SW900&rs=172&atrn=SWTopic&atrv=Migration
but couldn't find any complete documentation which will address all the problems.
Do let me know if you come across any other docs.Thanks.

1) Log on as mq administrator (mqm) or root (must be a member of mqm)
2) dspmq to dsiplay status of all queue managers
3) endmqm -i QMANAGER_NAME to stop all running queues
4) endmqlsr -m QMANAGERNAME to stop all listeners
5) ps -ef|grep mq ( UNIX only) check and make sure that no processes running with beginning amq or runmq (ignore amqi)
steps 1-5 are straight out of the manual.
6) For windows make sure u stop mq services from the MQ control center task bar (right click icon and stop) and also stop the MQSeries service (Administration Tool -> services)
7) stop instances of any monitoring software associated with MQ
8.) Backup qmgrs and errors folder ( tar , zip ..take ur pick) and if u have the space, then any other folders that u want from the main mqm directory if not the whole directory itself.
9) Install the software (smit, pkgadd or setup.exe for windows). windows may need restart after the completion.
10) follow post install steps from platform specific manual. |
