Hi All,
I have lots of questions for you all
I've just about made myself familiar with WBIMB Vs 2.1 (on Z/OS) and now we are about do a proof of concept of our implementation on a Linux Server. (We've never installed a broker on a linux machine nor Vs 5)
I've ran though the IBM documenation and understand the way vs 5 works is different to 2.1. But still some things a bit hazy since I'm doing this implementation.
Will I need to install MQ, a Database & WBIMB vs 5 on the linux box as well as all three products on the Windows Configuration Manager PC?
I also understand tha IBM do not support any other database products apart from DB2 for the Configuration Manager is that correct?
Looking at the documentation it also sounds like DB2 is the only database that is supported on LINUX platform. This is where the broker database will sit. Is this correct as our DBA's only support Oracle on distributed box's. (we did with vs2.1 use oracle on solaris which was supported) but it sounds like it doesn't with Linux. Could you clarify this for me.. thanks!!
What is a User Name Server (I probably really do know but I must refer to it as something else )?
When we setup WBIMB security groups e.g. mqbrdevt, etc (6 in all) do they only need to be created on the configuration Manager PC (windows machine) or do they also need to be created on the Linux server where the actual broker will sit? if not can anyone explain what security groups would need to be setup where (windows machine and Linux)?
thats it for now...i continue to do some reading for now but your help would be greatly appreciated.
If anyone can point me to some documentation (other than standard IBM docs) that would be fantastic.
Many many thanks,

Yes, as far as I know, you can only use DB2 with Linux. Also, I do not believe it is supported to use anything other than DB2 for *application* databases, either. In other words, you may not be able to connect to your Oracle databases at all from the Broker.

It's a security engine for Publish/Subscribe topics.

You will need to only create the mqbrdevt and etc. groups on Windows. On linux, you need only the wmqbrkrs and mqm groups.
You will need a security user that can authenticate the ConfigMgr's messages on the Linux machine. This means, likely, that the ConfigMgr service user must be *also* defined as a user on the Linux machine, and be given appropriate permissions to the queue manager.

There's a Redbook. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Hi jefflowrey
Many thanks for your reply as it has been very useful.
The application database as oracle not being supported on Linux with WBIMB is a big one for us. Just to confirm it I have raised a PMR wtih IBM so I can take it up to the relevant people at my company.
Thanks again.
