I guess the following post is more goes in WebSphere MQ forum, but would like to get your ideas first.

In the Installation manual for Workflow, it says:

Code:
For the operating system and messaging, one of:
– Windows XP Professional with:
IBM WebSphere MQ for Windows Version 5.3.1 with CSD01 (included
in the MQ Workflow package).

I had like to know:
1) Are IBM WebSphere MQ for Windows - Version 5.3.1 & Version 5.3 two different versions?
2) In IBM site it always mentions that latest version of MQ for windows is Version 5.3 only. But if you do a search in IBM site , it actually has a link to download WebSphere MQ Client V5.3.1 for windows. Can someone clarify me on this?
http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/subscription/descfiles/mqs531wc.htm
3) I am wondering applying some service packs to Version 5.3 really makes it Version 5.3.1, True or False?

Thanks in advance

1)5.3 and 5.3.1 do read like different versions to me.
3)Applying the latest CSD to your stock installation should change the version number...[/quote]

WMQ 5.3 doesn't work on WinXP. You can only install WMQ 5.3.1
I would install WMQ 5.3.1 and the latest CSD (now it is CSD07) before installing workflow

Its obvious from your post that WMQ 5.3 & WMQ 5.3.1 are two different versions.

I am wondering, I have a stand alone installation of WMQ WF 3.4 on my personal laptop, and actually I have installed WMQ 5.3 for messaging on my machine. And it works absolutely fine with WMQ 5.3.
My environment is as follows:
Windows XP professional.
WMQ 5.3 (No service packs applied)
DB2 8.1
WMQ WF 3.4 SP5.

Are you sure about WMQ 5.3 doesn't work on XP?

Thanks

CHF:

What is your MQ version?

From a command prompt type mqver.

This is the output I get:

Code:
C:\>mqver
Name:        WebSphere MQ
Version:     530.4  CSD04
CMVC level:  p530-04-030617
BuildType:   IKAP - (Production)

I originally installed what was on the MQWF CD what they call 5.3.1 but as you can see it shows 530.4 . I have applied fixpack 4 for MQ. So I would expect that if you were to run this command immediately after installing what is being called 5.3.1 it would show 530.1 CSD01.

Bottom line, I think you are probably OK

I ran mqver from command prompt, and this is the output:
Code:
C:\>mqver
Name:        WebSphere MQ
Version:     530
CMVC level:  p000-L021011
BuildType:   IKAP - <Production>

I am wondering about vennela's statement "WMQ 5.3 doesn't work on WinXP. You can only install WMQ 5.3.1"

There is a way around to install 5.3 on XP. It's been almost two years now ... but :
whether you have MQ 5.3 or 5.3.1, put on the latest CSD and you will be OK.

You can install Websphere MQ just fine on Windows XP Professional.

There are issues with installing it on Windows XP Home - as I understand it. As Vennela says, I recall there being some form of workaround. But I don't recall the details - and IBM doesn't support running MQ on Windows XP Home.
