Is it possible to show GDC data members in description of the workitem by using %parameter% sysntax? As far as my understanding we can only display the workitem input data container member values in workitem description.

No, only data in the workitem's input container as you stated.

why do you need GDC datamember in the work item description since the data is first available in the workitem itself before updating the GDC..
