I have 12 MVS MQM’s in a geographic cluster (two different CLUSTER names in the configuration for queue separation). 3 MQM’s represent 1 region and each of those 3 MQM’s are in a SYSPLEX where messages are processed/created by CICS and IMS. So for eample MQTA, MQTB and MQTC region 1, MQSA, MQSB, and MQSC region 2 and MQNA, MQNB, MQNC region 3, and finally MQAA, MQAB, and MQAC are region 4. MQSA and MQTA are the Full Repository MQM’s and the remaining are all partials. Non-MVS platforms connect to fulls based on physical location.

I have a new 70 message per second application coming in that will also use a new CLUSTER name. I had planned on for this CLUSTER to make MQSB, MQAB, MQNB, and MQTB Full repositories (basically the second region MQM’s). 2 Windows MQM’s will hook up with each full. I was thinking this did not put all the FULL repository data eggs in one basket for all the CLUSTERS. However, I am having second thoughts about this and maybe changing the config to reuse MQSA and MQTA as full repos and just adding the others, MQAA and MQNA, as fulls for the new CLUSTER. This somewhat simplifies what will need to be changed for OBJECTS.

While from a configuration standpoint either will work, can anyone shoot holes in this? Any input on best configuration?

You do not ever need more than two FRs. It doesn't add any redundancy.

Unless both of those are persistantly hard to reach from some segments of your network. But then maybe you should think about where you put your FRs.

I should clarify for jefflowery point that this new CLUSTER will be made up of an EAST and WEST Cluster. So region 1 and 2 make up one CLUSTER. Region 3 and 4 make up another CLUSTER. So each CLUSTER has the recommended two full repos. Sorry.

My real question is the reuse of MQTA and MQSA as fulls for the new CLUSTERs. Probably a nit.
