Hi,
Boy, those are very, very board questions. You might want to hire a consultant to help you answer those questions based on your current environment. Because they are far too general for this forum.
When you say 'web' are are you referring to internet or intranet? (external vs internal?)
For intranet, the web application can use either client calls to the backend systems, or have a queue manager in a DMZ that talks to your backend system.
For internet, the web application should NEVER be allowed to do client calls to the backend systems (never ever!!). Have the web application talk to a queue manager in a DMZ that talks to your backend system.
In either case, your IMS transaction, can be triggered (started) by an incoming message hitting a queue that resides on the mainframe (this is described under OTMA / MQ-IMS Bridge).
Regards,
Roger Lacroix
