Hi,

Due to circumstances beyond my control one of our development z/Linux guests has a very small /var filesystem. Our sysadmins are unwilling to recreate the filesystem and have created symbolic links for the /var/mqm filesystems (pointing to some god awful place) and would like us to install WMQ 5.3. /var/mqm does point to a local filesystem (not NFS).

Any thoughts? Any experience in this matter?

Speaking for MQ on Unix in general:
That should work. Give it a try.
It's really best if you can have MQ split across 3 filesystems and maybe even 3 disks.

/var/mqm/log for the logging I/O
/var/mqm for the queues
/var/mqm/errors for FDC files and other error logs.

This also allows you to control the space allocated to these filesystems and prevents other things that may be using var from impacting you and from you impacting them.
