Is it a good idea to have WAS and Workflow on the same machine or Database and Workflow on the same machine.
Just wondering as to what kind of specs should a machine is supposed to have for a process flow of huge size to work on it .
Any specs will be helpful.

It depends on the capacity of your hardware.
I believe most installations have WebServer, Workflow and database on different machines. _________________ -Ratan |

You should be doin a system capacity planning before finalizing on your hardware if it's a production system.. There's some white paper on how to calaculate BWU (Basic Workflow units) and they have map it to different server boxes.
For any medium to large scale application it's better to have WAS, Workflow and Database server on different machines.
A typical configuration for a medium throughput workflow application is
4 machines(2 processors each) with WAS ( with MQServer)..out of this 2 will dedicatley process automatic transactions (UPES).
2 boxes with MQ Workflow (2 processors each)
1 Data base server (may be up to 8 processors)
Note that there's no dedicated client concentrator here instead all the WAS boxes are configured with MQ Server.
Again all depends on your actual scenario like how much workitems you expect per day or what's volume of automatic transactions and length..what's the rate of failure and repetition of automatic steps...
With BWU you can only achieve only an initial set up...many things depends on your application and most of the time gets revealed during the post production time. _________________ -manoj |
