We have been messing around w/ MA88 (using jdk1.2.2) and noticed we needed to add classpaths/path and the server libs "mqm.dll", did we miss something?
Does IBM require us to install server on a machine in order for MA88 to work?
Please advise, thanks!

Scott,
if you want to use the Java/JMS classes in BINDINGS mode, you need to have the MQSeries server installed on the same box. Bindings mode says you are binding to a local queue manager, so you will need to have MQ installed.
However, if you are using the Java/JMS in CLIENT mode, you get away with just MA88; you don't have to install the platform-specific MQClient or server code.
Cheers,
Stefan

Thanks Stefan for the quick reply.
Are you sure if I connect from a local machine w/ JUST MA88 and JDK to a remote machine that the library is still not needed?
Maybe I missed the point. I really thought our java pgm. errored out and asked for the "mqm.dll" library?
Sorry for asking again, just not sure.
Thanks,

Scott,
if your Java program has been set up to act as an MQ client by setting the necessary environment properties (channel, hostname, port, etc.) as outlined in the MQSeries using Java manual then, yes, I am sure that you don't need any plaform-specific libraries.
If you use JMS, the TRANSPORT attribute is the one to look for; it's 'CLIENT' for client mode and 'BINDINGS' for server bindings mode.
Cheers,
Stefan

This Also implicitely implies that MQSeries can not be used in a distributed transaction with Websphere
IF MQSeries server is installed on a Remote Box.
REASON: The documentation states that you must connect to MQ in binding mode |
