I have a QMGR running on W2K server and want to connect an application located on a different W2Kbox via SVRCON, also the application is on another segment in the network.
When I try to connect the connection failes with TCP/IP return code 10054(X'2746').
I have now set up a MQ QMGR on the application side with ordinary channels to test communication. MQ ping is succeccfull pinging from the applicationside. Pinging the other way however results in failure (remote channel not available).
Checking the network resultet in that the applicationside did not listen on the spesified port although listener was up and running on that spesific port.
By setting the correct port in the TCP tab of QMGR properties in services I was able to ping both ways, meaning of course communication is up and running. This however does not solve the problen for the SVRCON which I originally am looking for.
My question is:
How can I get this communication running for a SVRCON?
I hope my posting was understandable. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. |

It looks, if you have a network problem.
- Make sure, you have a route between both machines in both directions.
- If using, check the DNS on both machines
- try telnet <machine> <port>, if the listener is reachable, telnet will connect it.
- check the system event log
If this doesn't help, google 10054, you'll find some interesting problem reports like this:

Hi Gunter
Thank you for your reply. I have tried telnet without being able to reach the listener. I wonder if the fact that the box with the application does not have a permanent IP adress may have some impact. Is it nescesarry for the box to have a permanent IP adress for SVRCON to work? |

A permanent IP is not a requirement as long as the conname is valid hostname that will resolve to the correct IP.
From your error message it sounds like the listener is working but the channel name are using doesnt exist on the server ??? _________________ Jeff
