please can anybody give me info about the mqseries client license?
- it is free to get the client code it on the ibm web site
but
- i have heard that to be able to use a client on your platform to connect to
a server outside your company we need to get at least a server license!!!
is that right??
thanks for help

That matches my understanding.
But you should clarify all licensing questions with your IBM Sales Representative. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

I thought that if all you were using was the Client, then this was free under all circumstances. (Except for the Transactional version. ) Who ever is running the Server pays for the Server license.
So, as Jeff states:

I've heard comments from IBM staff along the lines of "The client is free to use within your organization, if you've paid for a server license." _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

That was probably a very smart salesman!
Next time outsmart them by asking "so if I did not buy a server license and I want to use the client code, could you find out the listprice of an MQ client?" (not the transactional client code ) _________________ Michael

Hi Sam,
here is our simple pb:
- in our company we have a mqseries server installed
- others companies outside (different from us) have mqseries client applis connecting to our mqseries server to put and get messages
- they dont need at all to have a mq server installed on their machines
the question is: must these others companies have to get a mqseries server license even if they only use client mqseries?
