Hi,
I am confused on the handling of poison messages, I am hoping that someone could enlighten me!
We are using Siebel to poll a queue but whenever there is a badly formatted message, the message gets returned to the queue. I hv configured the backout threshold to 1 and the backout requeue name but the Siebel application continues to pick up and return the message. When I check the message backout count, it exceeds the threshold value.
My question is, is it the calling application's responsibility (in this case Siebel) to compare the backout count and the threshold values and requeue the message to another queue or is it a configuration in MQSeries that handles this.
We are using MQ5.2

regards
BL

It is the applications responsibility to handle the Backout threshold and requeue queue.

The APR expliciitly states the Queue manager takes no action based on the value of these attributes.

There are a couple of samples (backout.c, backout.java) located at http://www.developer.ibm.com/tech/sampmq.html that move a message to the backout queue.
