I want to do some kind of load testing as the our overall system capacity is going to increase by 100% and that would mean double the workload.

We have about 200+ users with different roles and we have two systems in one system group.

Are they any pointers in doing the load test?

THis load test will help evaluate if any hardware is required etc..

Currently WF in Prod is on AIX5.x

Did any of you do this kind of testing?

ANy ideas?

This might or might not be what you are looking for. You can use this support pac for some inputs on WebSphere MQ Workflow - Performance estimates for solution and capacity assessments

for any kind of load test the first thing you need is an automated scenario , a measurement method, and some means to run this scenario in various volumes - either through simple scripts of through e.g. Loadrunner.
Your scenario should of course be comparable to what your workflow users are doing, so that there is sufficient relation to the actual production load..

If you'd like to do some estimations on the required capacity only, then the above mentioned WP01 is most likely the best you can get (sorry for advertising, but sometimes I just can't resist).

I agree with MZG. The first thing to do is to calculate the BWU's as explained in the "WebSphere MQ Workflow - Performance estimates for solution and capacity assessments". Then use the information you gathered to setup a load test using a tool like load runner. The tricky part is setting up your scripts within load runner.

A good simple test is to run a script that simply logs on opens a work list, refresh the work list and logs out. You can multiply that by the number of users you expect to have logged on at peak times.

A more complicated approach is to actually have the script check out a work item. It can be done, but it requires a much more complicated script and a lot of pre-test setup.

This process is well worth the time. !!

Also, I would suggest you look over the best practices guide to help you fine tune the system for optimal performance. http://www-306.ibm.com/software/integration/support/supportpacs/individual/wa0b.html

Good Luck
Dave

Hi, Has anybody reported cases (or saw in somewhere) of performance trouble on the WfMS (MQSeriesWF or other) ?

I'am writing one dissertation about Evaluation and Measures on the Production WfMS (like a synthetic benchmark) and need informations about performance in the "real life".

There is one organization (www.waria.com) that compares several supliers of WfMSs, but the document acquisition is expensive and the comparation method isn't clear.

Thanks

Fagundes
