Can a Client program be written in COBOL to contact a remote MQServer. Any inputs on this would be of much help

Yes... Just make sure you like with the right libraries.

The cobol interface can call MQCONN and rely on MQSERVER, or MQCHLLIB/MQCHLTAB env vars, or you can code an MQCONNX.

Which platform btw - If you are on Windows, the MQCONNX from a MicroFocus program may require an APAR fix to work.
