I have bought a new notepad with Windows XP pre-installed and want to install my WMQ 5.3 for Windows, base release CD (i.e. no CSDs) formerly installed under W2K Pro, on the new PC. However the MQ installer tells me that this WMQ release is not supported for Windows XP and will be supported by a CSD. I have downloaded CSD04, but cannot install it because 5.3 is not installed!
Can I get around this Catch-22 with the software I have or do I need a new product CD that has CSD01 (or later) already applied?

Taken from the memo.ptf from CSD04:

Quote:
Installing on Microsoft Windows XP
----------------------------------

To install the original release of WebSphere MQ for Windows V5.3
on Microsoft Windows XP, you should enter the following command
on the command line:

x:\setup.exe AMQ_XP_INSTALL_PENDING_CSD=1

After completing this installation, you must then install fix pack
CSD01.

This is not necessary if you have the refreshed versions 5.3.0.1
or 5.3.0.2 of WebSphere MQ for Windows V5.3, which already include
fix pack CSD01. You should follow the published installation
instructions to install this version of WebSphere MQ for Windows
V5.3 on Microsoft Windows XP.

Cheers,

Thanks Eddie, exactly the info I needed...however 'setup.exe' kicks off the MQ Installation Launchpad...which does appear to know about the 'CSD-PENDING' parm. I'm sure I have seen how to bypass the Launchpad, but can't recall it immediately....can anyone advise?

Try replacing setup.exe with the inst.msi in the command line.

I am unable to install MQ5.3 on XP with the suggestions in this thread. Can someone give a detailed or better description as to how to over ride this catch-22

The documentation has a flaw...

x:\setup.exe AMQ_XP_INSTALL_PENDING_CSD=1

in my case didn't work... so thought if it is in the docs there must be a way... I looked at trying the other exe's on the CD and found:

x:\mqparms.exe AMQ_XP_INSTALL_PENDING_CSD=1 to work.

Good luck!

much thanks to Michael,

instead of:
x:\setup.exe AMQ_XP_INSTALL_PENDING_CSD=1
which needs after CSD01

the cmde:
x:\mqparms.exe AMQ_XP_INSTALL_PENDING_CSD=1

is OK to install 5.3 on windows XP and with no need of CSD01
just after having executed this command the installation begins
normally!

Jack,
you STILL NEED to APPLY CSD1 after the installation!!!
The install works as described, but MQ will only work on XP AFTER CSD1 has been applied!

Jack,
CSD's can be downloaded for free, following page is a summary page
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/integration/mqfamily/support/summary/index.html
Follow the Windows link and download the latest CSD (for 5.3 that is CSD5) install that one and you are on the lastest level.

CSD's are cummulative so no need to find CSD1,2,3 and 4
