| Error in starting Queue Manager |

Hi ,
My Problem:
I am trying to start Queue Manager on Sun Solaris m/c but it is not getting started.
It gererates FDC files saying the reason as :
AMQ6119: An internal MQSeries error has occurred ('Too many open files' from shmat.)
This queue manager was been running for 4 months contineously but suddenly this problem awrose.
This problem deal with 2 cause.
1) Either there is not sufficient resource for the process to start OR
2)The max open file descriptor has been reached .
But I want to know for which reason it has failed to start the queue manager and how I can get rid of this problem.
Can any ion help me.

Subodh,
it 'smells' like your machine ran out of shared memory. I don't have any crisp Solaris knowledge but you should make sure that:
1) You have generously configured enough IPC resources in your /etc/system file
2) You have the latest CSD applied for MQ (CSD07 for V5.1, CSD02 for V5.2)
If you can't start your queue manager and rebooting the machine is not an option, you will need to manually clean up the IPC resources. Unfortunately, I don't know the Solaris commands to display and remove semaphores and shared memory that belong to MQ (owner is mqm), but your Solaris admin should know. Be careful to stop ALL queue managers on that box though, if you have more than one queue manager running before you delete the IPC resources.
Maybe some of the fine people on this forum can supply you with more detailed advice on this.

PS. This is a quote from the APAR list fixed in CSD02 for MQ V5.2:
IY19317 - When MQSeries applications on UNIX issue MQCONN, they
are attached to a piece of shared memory used for
tracing. If they issued MQDISC and then MQCONN again
repeatedly, under some circumstances the attach count
to this shared memory set sometimes increased.
Eventually, the process reached the limit on the number
of shared memory sets it can attach, at which time it
generated an FDC showing a probe id of XY079022 from
component xtrAccessCtlMem with a comment of "too many
open files from shmat".
