I need to upgrade from 5,2.1 to 5.3 on windows 2000 platform . I have done a rolling upgrade to one station on a test site no problem . I have an other 10 window sites to do , hopefully all will work out .

To upgrade to the server which is with a failover cluster is there anything special that I should do or can I do a rolling upgrade on both machines ?

Also I need to upgrade to a server which is with a failover cluster and having on it DB2 and MQSI is this similar are is it a completely different job.

is the server with failover a windows 2000 cluster server?
is this your production system or do you also have a test/development clustered machine?
Peter Potkay wrote an 80 step document to perform the upgrade as it is "a bit more complicated"

This document is a word document, so can't post it here, if you pm me your e-mail address I' ll mail it to you.

If you are only upgrading WMQ and not DB2 or MQSI, the process should be the same. You probably need some additional steps on an MQSI machine to bring down MQSI properly...

1. Yes the server is on a windows 2000 cluster server .

2. Fortunately I do have a test/development clustered machine . This was built using SupportPac MC74 . I understand that on 5.3 it is built in , do I have to uninstal the supportPac or does the upgrade take care of this on it's own ?

3.Peter Potkay wrote a 95 step document this was for rebuilding the MQSI cluster from scratch .

So you already have it! Then you know it is different then a straight upgrade... When I read the document he refers to the MQSI cluster as the cluster MQSI runs on, not MQSI running in clustered mode itself... but I may be wrong. Also he posted this document as a guide to do the MQ 5.2.1 to MQ 5.3 upgrade. Nothing to do with MQSI.

Good luck on your upgrade, please post any serious deviations when your upgrade is done!

When it comes to MS clustering, I want to be very explicit with everything; leave nothing to chance. It only takes 10 extra minutes to uninstall MQ 5.2.1 and to uninstall the MC74 Support Pack, and then to reboot. The document I wrote I believe listed this steps (don't have it with me to check). Its nice startuing the install of 5.3 knowing thatthe machine is clean and there is no old stuff that may confuse things.

Mike, you are correct. Regular olf MQSeries clustering was outside of the scope of this document. The goal was to get a fully functioning MS Hardware cluster up and running first, and then its a piece of cake to build the MQSeries cluster on top of that.
