Will users know thier posts were moved? Or will they just repost again?
Along with SupportPack updates, I would like to know when a new CSD (FixPack) comes out. It would be nice to know ASAP, and not wait for the monthly update. Is this info officially released somehow, or is just a matter of looking at the IBM webpage every so often hoping to catch the change? _________________ Peter Potkay

As far as I know the user is not informed whether a 'move' took place. (your post was 'split', did you get a notifier??)
The notifier still works even when the topic is moved, so the original poster still gets informed about updates. chances of getting a response do increase.
CSD info is not released on a subscription basis (any one from IBM willing to put this up???).
There is a way to subscribe to a 'bot' to detect changes to pages, but never used it.
It's up to us who stumbles on a new CSD to report it first unfortunately...
I plan (when enough users want it) to scan the support pac site and post the monthly results.

just found watchthatpage.com and subscribed to all the platform support pages. fingers crossed to see if I get an e-mail when a CSD comes out.

FYI To try to answer some of the issues raised, effort is being put in to ways of distributing information.
For example, go to
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/integration/websphere/support/
If you sign up for 'My Support', you can select which products you are interested in and get weekly emails listing flashes and code downloads.
Base WMQ are starting to put CSDs/Fixpacks as a 'Downloadable file' entry, as well as flashes to indicate a new one is out. Also, we are starting to put the support packs up as well. I would imagine that MQSI will follow once we have ironed out the process.
It does mean you wont find out for a week, and I'd add that it is the start of a process, so bear with us if there are mistakes! but I think this is the sort of thing you are after.
Additionally I was trying to post News articles when a new fixpack got released, but someone else's reaction time was quicker than mine!
Note: I am not speaking 'for' IBM here, just pointing out what we are currently doing. ie dont blame me if things dont happen (but feel free to tell me as I can talk to the people who do the process!) |

Thanks for that contribution!!! 'we' know 'you' are not IBM
I assume My Support also has a 'suggestion box' (to improve service)?

Sounds like a good suggestion to me!
Unfortunately anything that requires a major change to the way things get done takes time, so its a slow progress to improve things. However, I hope the external support pages are getting a lot better and things like publishing apar information, downloads and articles (similar to the msdn) should mean self-support is a lot easier. |
