Hi all.
i have 2 questions :

1) we have the broker on an AIX machine. We have 2 databases to update. One of them is on AIX and the other is on a Mainframe. Now to connect to the database on the AIX we use Database.Schema name.Table name. To connect to the database on the Mainframe, will the same syntax work ?

2) I have DB2 in my machine. Using Configuration Assistant I added an instance present in a remote machine to my machine. I then created a flow that would insert into a table present in the remote machine. But this does not work. What is wrong in my approach. In both the machines the login name is the same. Win 2000 is present in both the machines. In both there is DB2 8.1 installed. The ODBC connection is also okay.

In general what is the procedure to insert into a remote table ?

Thanks a lot !

Venkat

Hi

Q1) the same syntax will work for the mainframes also. I am assuming that your broker user id has the access to those tables.

You can either use the EVAL or PASSTHRU to access those tables. But again i am not succesful in using the PASSTHRU so far.

Q2) i am using the DB2 gateway instance name corresponding to the remote database and it works fine. I have no idea how to configure the db2 gateway though.

Thanks,
meow

Hi Venkat,

Q1) I agree with Meow on the approach to Q1 and I have tried using EVAL too. EVAL works better than PASSTHRU.

Q2) With respect to Q2, your approach is correct as far as I am concerned because i have designed similar flows that insert into remote databases like DB2 located on Solaris as well as a mainframe. Now I need to know if you have mentioned the instance name in your flow correctly. Just adding an instance to your local machine will not do the thing. Make sure that the data source name is correctly mentioned in the flow so that you can do the inserts. As far as the configuration that you have mentioned, I think there is no problem with the idea working.

Anyway,Have a great new year.

Q1. You would only need either EVAL or PASSTHRU if you are trying to issue a command that WMQI doesn't understand. Under 'normal' circumstances, a regular SELECT will work.

Also, EVAL is very expensive in WMQI terms.

Cheers,
