Running Windows 2K server with MQ Series 5.2 and am looking for guidance in moving my MQ info to a new server, and also upgrading to ver 5.3.
Also is there a way to use Windows Clustering for redundancy with the MQ Series application?
Thanks in advance. |

MQ 5.3 includes build in support for Microsoft Clusters (Used to be the old MC74 support pack) - See the docs which come with MQ for info on that.
Also, I would suggest a good backup (including the registry) before starting, and if possible set the qmgr to manual start, do the upgrade and get to fixpack 5 before starting the qmgr and turning it back to autostart (just avoids a couple of potential minor known migration issues).
Just added comments: If you are installing from scratch and not migrating, you might want to look at the MS03 support pack which backs up the definitions from one qmgr to save you having to define them again on another. Migrating data is another issue though |

Thanks for the quick response. Can you point me to a location I can find the documentation, I took over and have nothing. Also how can I do backups so that if my server dies, I dont lose anything. My big worries are losing Queuemanagers, there queue's, channels, etc...
Thanks, |

Erm, sorry I cant help wrt to the docs - they are not the best in this area unfortunately. Also, what I said is my personal opinion but officially you can just apply 5.3 and it will do the migration (and it will, I just told you how to avoid some known problems which have hit a very small number of people).
Back up the MQ install dir. By default, under that is the logs and qmgrs dirs, but if you have changed them during install (or running mscs) you need to explicitly back those up too. Export from regedit the HKLM\Software\IBM\MQSeries tree, and I think thats enough to get it all back. Just ensure if you do have to go back then your backup tool reapplies the security which was on the files (or at least give mqm full control over everything, worst case). 'amqmdain regsec' can be used to put the security back on the registry keys. |

Instructions on MSCS are included in the MQ Docs as of WMQ5.3
I've also sent you (PM) something which might be useful. |
