Hi guys,

I've been playing with the mq series java api and i was wondering when the begin method is supposed to be used.

I have got transactions working by setting the option in each message i get or put, then using the commit/backout methods. But i don't understand when i would want to use the begin method. If i try to use it in either bindings or TCP/IP connection modes, instead of marking the messages as part of the transaction it throws an error.

can any one help?

thanks

dan

Dan,
MQBEGIN is only used when MQSeries is the resource coordinator in an XA transaction (global unit of work) that spans multiple resource managers, for example MQSeries and a database. Note that XA resource coordination is currently not supported with any of the MQSeries Clients, including the MQSeries classes for Java client.

Recommended background reading: Application Programming Guide, Chapter 13 on 'Committing and backing out units of work',
MQSeries using Java, Chapter 8 on 'Environment-dependent behavior'

Hope this helps,
Stefan
