Folks,

Currently to my knowledge, I have found that the API is somewhat limited when it comes to querying users that are (NOT) signed on to workflow. It's rather simply to get information on users that are signed on, but getting information on users that are not signed on and that are perhaps part of an organiztion or a role is what I was interested in find more about.

To my knowledge, one way to do this would be to directly interfact with the workflow runtime database using ODBC/JDBC connections. Just wanted to confirm with someone else that the API is indeed(at least at this point in time) somewhat limited to querying information on users that are not logged on to to workflow.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Praveen:

You are correct in that there never has been any "Staff API" and you are limited in what you can do.

Be careful of accessing MQWF Tables directly. IBM frowns on this, and may not support your application if you do so.

Thanks John:

I agree with you in that direct interfacing with the runtime database is perhaps not something that either should be done or promoted. Now that you have confirmed my thoughts, what in your opinion is a way around this...if any.

I mean, in a way it makes sense to have access to workflow users information, regardless of whether or not they are logged on or not. Do you suspect a direction on this from IBM in the near future?, or would you recommend alternating the application design by using another method?

Thanks again John.

Praveen:

I have been waiting for a Staff API since the early FlowMark days (i.e 1996) so I am doubtful that there will ever be one. The only way you can do this without accessing the IBM tables would be to duplicate the information you wish to access about staff to your own tables, and then keep that information in synch with the RT Database. Not an easy task....

GOOD LUCK
