Just a little thoughtful about this.
(Using WBI MB 5.0)
When building a TDS message, element lengths are set on the "Physical properties, TDS1, Global Element" tab (at element level).
I have just built a CWF message with packed fields and here element lengths are set on the "Physical properties, CWF1, Element Reference". On this message set, the element length property can be set only when the element is added to a type.
Why can CWF elements only be given lengths when added to types?? _________________ / Boolean |

Fair question. You're not the first to comment on this. There's is no technical reason for the difference, but historically the CWF physical format has always associated its properties with type members, rather than with elements. When TDS was introduced in v2.1, it had no such history to follow, so the authors associated the TDS properties with the elements. |

Ok, but it's an answer and I'll buy it.
Thank's! _________________ / Boolean |

In my opinion the MRM interface is horrible (non-intuitive) to use, and the advice given to me by our experts was that it's easier to define the message layout as a COBOL copybook and then import it, than it is to define it in the Control Center. |
