I am considering the switch from dual to single logging in my z/OS environment. Reason being is that we are using a ton of tapes and could cut them in half. Just wondering if anybody else is using single logging in their z/OS?
Thanks! _________________ Jason Adams

Well, that's a tricky question.
From my point of view I'll say, it depends on your requirements, because can you afford to loose them ??
Lets say you have a bad DASD or "tape" in your VTS ??
Today enverybody is using GDPS together with synchronous mirroing, and dual sites, yes ??.
Definitely not (this is for the big ones only), so the small sites will have to consider placing the logs, archives, and BSDS on physical different volumes to be shure not to lose any data.
I had a chrash 2-3 yrs back, it was a ESCON-director that gave up, so my BSDS get out of sync, and after restart of MQ, it said, "help me I have a problem"... After some RYFM, and copying data arround, we got airborn again.
My personal recomendation would be keep to copies when your data is vital for your company. Otherwise discuss it with you auditors.... I also don't think that your DBAs would rely on one DB2 log only
Just my $0.02 _________________ Regards, Jørgen
