A couple of my systems have the same error: "...attempt to open...SYSTEM.CHANNEL.INITQ...failed with reason code 2042".

RC 2042 states the object is in use. I run 3 commands when starting the qmgr: 1) strmqm, 2)strmqcsv, 3) runmqchi.

Any ideas why the SYS~.CHA~.INITQ would already be open? Is there a way to clear all open files for a qmgr without rebooting the system?

The channel initiator has probably been started automatically when you ran the strmqm command. Before issuing runmqchi check whether this process is already running.

Thanks. That was it. I guess I can take that parameter out of my startup scripts!
