Could someone briefly explain to me how MQ issues these messages in the AMQERR01.LOG file so MQ Linear logs can be cleaned up. I noticed that these messages got issued within 2 hrs interval, when there were no messages in any of outgoing or in coming Qs.

10/13/03 17:44:08
AMQ7467: The oldest log file required to start queue manager
DEV.Q.MANAGER is S0000001.LOG.

10/13/03 17:44:08
AMQ7468: The oldest log file required to perform media recovery of queue
manager DEV.Q.MANAGER is S0000005.LOG.

10/13/03 19:43:19
AMQ7467: The oldest log file required to start queue manager
DEV.Q.MANAGER is S0000004.LOG.

10/13/03 19:43:19
AMQ7468: The oldest log file required to perform media recovery of queue
manager DEV.Q.MANAGER is S0000005.LOG.

As you can see, just after 2 hrs (with not much system activity within MQ I assume, since there are mo messages to process), the AMQ7467 jumped from S0000001.LOG to S0000004.LOG. In AMQERR01.LOG, there wasn't much between these two messages.

I'm trying to understand if there are any rules MQ uses to know which log files ar required to start the Q Manager? How come in just 2 hrs it decided that it now needs from S0000004.LOG onwards to start the Q Manager.

Thanx

There is no 'issue' to resolve. This is MQ working as designed.

My guess would be that MQ took a checkpoint, and so only needs to go back as far as that for recovery purposes.

Also, for 'normal' operation, you would see very little in the AMQERR01.LOG. Just the logging messages you asked about and channel start/stops.

Cheers,
