We're running WMQ 5.3 and DB2 7.1. Our DB2 systems guy is asking about how to put (MQSEND) to a queue. This queue would be triggered to start 'something' in db2 that will do an 'get' (MQRECEIVE) to update a table.
I can't find any info on what to 'trigger' and how to 'marry' the MQ and DB2 subsystems.
As you can see, I'm a bit unfamiliar with DB2....I'm thinking CICS here and I know it's different.
These are basic questions...can someone help and point me in the right direction. _________________ Regards,

No you dont need AMI,
You need to look at triggering the application.
You will need a trigger monitor, this is a batch version (Not IMS/CICS)
http://www-3.ibm.com/software/integration/support/supportpacs/individual/ma12.html
You will need to modify the Queue Definition and create a process definition _________________ Jeff

If you want to use the MQ functions in DB2, and it seems you do because you used the right terms: MQSEND and MQRECEIVE, then yes, you do need the AMI. But, it is already part of the z/OS version of MQ. You don't need the Support Pac.
Last time I looked, there still wasn't a 'listener' service for the DB2/MQ functions, so in order to receive messages you would have to kick off a Stored Procedure by some 'external' means that could be Triggered, by MQ, when a message arrives.
Most of the doc for this 'interface' seems to be in the DB2 readme. There's also a couple of good articles on the IBM website. Start with:

If we do write this application today using the AMI, when support for it is dropped, what then? There is a product called DB2 Information Integrator V8.1, do you know if this is a replacement for the MQ Functions and the AMI??
Thanks! _________________ Regards,
