We have set up an AIX box the full version of an MQ 5.1 install. Thru changes in our environment, we now only need a client piece on this machine. When a "full install" of MQ is done, does the client portion go with it also or is the "client install" something that we have to go back to do?

I think client also will be installed but not sure.
If you do
lslpp -L | grep -i mq
it will tell you whether or not client component is installed.

If you only need client uninstall Server and install client from the client CD
not the server CD.
