I know their is an overhead for sending messages over a MQSeries channel, but I can't find the exact number. Please see the senario below.

Relating to our 32Bit-Frame-Relay-Connection between Germany and Atlanta, I've some more questions.

1. 240KB a minute is the theoretical limit of the bandwith

2.1 with big messages (e.g. 2397 bytes) we reach follw limits:
2.2 from Germany to Atlanta (MQPUT)
2.3 90 msgs per minute => 210 KB bandwith
2.4 from Atlanta to Germany (MQGET)
2.5 82 msgs per minute => 191 KB bandwith

3.1 with small messages (e.g. 288 bytes) we reach follw limits:
3.2 from fraport to Atlanta (MQPUT)
3.3 160 msgs per minute => 45 KB bandwith
3.4 from Atlanta to Germany (MQGET)
3.5 116 msgs per minute => 33 KB bandwith

Now the question:

Because of the space between 33/45KB and the theoretical limit of the bandwith of 240KB, the brake or bottleneck is the IO (I think) or the performance of the queue-manager in Atlanta.

OK, My personal oppinion is the difference is bacause of the Communication overhaed on the channel, not performance of the Queue Manager its self.

Buy the way, the messages are persistant! (that probalby has some effect)

You might want to go to:

http://www-3.ibm.com/software/integration/support/supportpacs/

and look at the Category 2 Performance Report SupportPacs. They give break downs of various scenarios which help shed some light on what you can or can't do to speed things up.
