Question2: In case i need to change it, i need to reconfigure the broker database or only i need to export /import the XML files???

The migration from WMQI v2.1 to WBIMB v5 is more complicated than just upgrading the broker.
Regardless, though, I'm running WMQI v2.1 on a v5.3 MQ install with no problems.
You have to shut down all WMQI components on the affected machine in order to perform the upgrade. But since you have to shut down the queue manager to perform the upgrade, you're already shutting down production, so no additional issues there.
You should take the opportunity to install CSD04 for WMQ5.3. This will allow you to install CSD05 of WMQIv2.1, which you may want to do at some point. |

Stop all WMQI services on that server and change it to manual(like config manager or broker or naming server). Take MQ back up(run MS03 ..etc). 1.Stop mq service and watch the task manager to kill amqxxxx processes.
2.Now uninstall all support packs MA88, mc74(mscs)...etc and MQSeries5.2.
3.Server reboot.
4. Install MQ 5.3 and csd4(include MA88 and MC74) + ur support packs
5. Reboot is good idea(mscs required)
6. Create queue manager and object back up(runmqsc).
7. Change all WMQI service to automatic and start. _________________ Thanks,

This procedure is a very safe procedure, but is more complicated than required. Under normal conditions, the WMQ 5.3 installer will upgrade MQ v5.2 without an uninstall. It will also handle MA88.
I don't know how it will handle MC74 or MSCS, as I don't use those. |

The support pack MS03 provides the 'saveqmgr' command, which produces an MQSC script file that will rebuild all objects on a queue manager.
You should review the System Administration guide for the chapter on backup and recovery of queue managers.
But again, taking a backup of your system is not required. It's a good idea, but the 5.3 installer should preserver your current setup intact while it is upgrading the MQSeries install.
You will need to do *nothing* with your broker or any other WMQI processes, other than stop them while the upgrade is being performed.
If you have configured your WMQI system with a switch file to support globally coordinated transactions, you may need to recompile that. But that is because the switch file is related to the Queue Manager, not to WMQI. If you don't know what I mean by "switch file", you haven't done this and don't need to worry about it. |

I believe MQ5.3 includes the functionality of MA88, so you should not have to install it. Please double check the manuals to confirm.
