Have you defined the SVRCONN of this name on the queue manager you are adding? If not, of course it will fail with an unrecognised channel name. Try defining it first, then adding the queue manager to MQ Explorer. |
Did not try that at first on the basis that the name suggested it was a default channel created by the system. When I did create it the result was intially the same when it dawned on me that I hadn't created a SVRCONN channel of the same name on the other server - remember I am new to this!
I set the up channel on the other end and then got a different - but more encouraging - error.
AMQ4036 Access not permitted. You are not authorised to perform this action.
I therefore updated the object authorities on both channels and granted the relevant userid's full permissions.
But alas I am still getting the "access not permitted" error message but it maybe a step in the right direction. |

Sir, you have my respect because as you are new to this you are not so much jumping in at the deep end, you are jumping off the edge of the cliff into the deep end!
Keep plugging away and learning, but especially keep plugging away at your management to provide you with training. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

One great piece of advise when struggling with MQ problems is to read the error log for the queue manager every time. Sometimes there will be no error in there which in itself tells you something (it tells you the application never got as far as the queue manager). But mostly there will be an error message in there and it will be very enlightening.
Could you take a look now, and show us the error that occurs in the queue manager's error log when the MQ Explorer shows the error you report above.
Cheers

Hi Morag,
Took a look in the error log as suggested and found a rather big clue indicating the connection was being blocked by CHLAUTH. I then found a useful article, written by your good self, on how to resolve this particular issue.
I disabled CHLAUTH (a temp fix of course) and hey presto was able to add ‘ NEWYORK’ as a Partial Repository to the INVETORY Cluster on the PARIS node.
Using the DISPLAY CHLAUTH command, as shown in your article, I was then able to ascertain that there were two system default rules that were blocking the connection. On both rules I changed warning attribute to YES and this allowed the connection to be made. Maybe this is the wrong way to resolve this issue – another whole topic I’m sure - but it has enabled me to complete my Cluster exercise.
Thanks you all for the assistance and encouraging comments.
Cheers
