Use of a gateway qmgr might be thought of as part of a multi-tier configuration. In multi-tier configurations, one tier performs a discrete function.
It is common, for example, to have a tier (platform, lpar) devoted to doing database activity, and another tier where applications run.
A gateway qmgr may serve as the connection point for client connections; and do nothing more than pass workload to other qmgrs. This could be a qmgr in a DMZ. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.
