But this is not guaranteed to be the same forever, as a general principle v7 removes the requirement for the support pac and I feel these are important points for future readers.

I agree it's not like MA88.

Where it may be relevant here is where the OP said:

Depending on what exactly is meant by this, I suspect the install is becoming corrupt when the support pac's being put over the WMQ install.

With V7 XMS is part of the distribution. You should no longer be using the fix pack.

The client instalation that we had for 7.0.1.3 wasn't with XMS maybe (I am not supposed to official install MQ clients, but when I was doing it it worked).
Anyway, now it works.

What I was saying there was that XMS wasn't found in add remove programs. Even after installing XMS 2.0.0.3 (from IA9H) correctly we weren't able to receive notifications.

So, in our environment, remote MQ server + local MQ server 6.0.2.7 + 7.0.1.3 client + XMS 2.0.0.3 didn't work. I am not claiming the client and XMS are flawed. They just didn't work for us.

What did work was emote MQ server + local MQ server 6.0.2.7 + 7.0.1.2 client + XMS 2.0.0.2.

XMS 2.0.0.2 is from the suport pac on the IBM website.

I don't think playing around with software levels in general is going to do a lot to resolve this particular issue. As a troubleshooting point, it is a usual reasonable approach to confirm that the issue still occurs at the current level.

Other general troubleshooting points are
  1. Compare the working and the non-working system at a very high level of detail
  2. Take MQ client level traces on both the working and non-working system and compare the results
  3. improve the amount of logging that the application does to provide a very fine grain of detail about steps taking and results given
  4. Open a PMR and work with IBM and XMS support.

You are right, but we cannot revert to the old server. I am not in position to enforce that. For the time being it works and we are satisfied.

Yes it is.
