This time it was clean. I was able to change the conname without any problem. The steps I executed were:
1. Suspend qmgr
2. remove clusrcvr at PR out from cluster
3. change conname
4. add clusrcvr back to cluster
5. Resume qmgr.

It is not necessary to suspend/resume the qmgr. It is unlikely that you would do this in production.

1. stop the channel
2. remove clusrcvr at PR out from cluster
3. change conname
4. add clusrcvr back to cluster
5. start the channel

Well.. suspend and resume was optional in this case as none of the queues are under workload management. I'd say no gain but also no harm.
But why is there a need to stop the clusrcvr channel? As soon as you remove it from the cluster (and this is a maintenance window), the queue manager becomes unavailable for cluster.
