We are sending MQMD+RFH2+IIH+data in a request msg from a broker on AIX to an IMS transaction on mainframe via OTMA bridge. The IMS transaction would process the data and send a reply back with the MQMD+RFH2+IIH headers and processed data.
My question is : do the RFH2 and IIH headers go all the way upto the IMS transaction along with the Request message data ? Or do they stop at the OTMA bridge or some other point and later get attached to the reply ?
The headers are coming back in the Reply message so I want to know upto what point they go.
Can someone pls clarify ?
Thanks in advance. |

I think this is more of a Mainframe/CICS forum question.
I don't know for sure, but I believe the IIH/JMS headers are stripped by the bridge, and rebuilt for the reply. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

I too, was always under the impression that the MQ/IMS-bridge strips off all semblance of MQ (re: headers) and forwards just the 'message data' to the IMS transaction.

The fact is on IMS side we are getting the MQRFH2 header and application data when our program reads the message using GU call. |
However, the preceding quote from this post implies that the MQRFH2 header is one header that is not removed, and is actually forwarded along with the message data.

No, the MQMD and the MQIIH are not passed to the IMS application. On the reply, the bridge takes care of the 're-attachment'. |

The documentation on "MQ-IMS bridge" clearly says that an IMS transaction can accept a message with or without the IIH header. But it doesn't say anything about the RFH2 header.
But I know for sure that the MQMD doesn't go to the IMS transaction.
So, I think there must be an option to send whatever headers we want to an IMS transaction including RFH2, and IIH.
Did anybody use the 2 headers RFH2 and IIH along with a message that goes as a request to an IMS transaction , and then comes back as a reply ?
If so, pls confirm if my thinking is correct.
Thanks for your time !. |

Probably not. My gut feel is that the Bridge application passes everything following the IIH on to IMS. It treats everything as "message payload".
I would be very surprised, if the IIH handles headers in the order MD, RFH2, IIH, Payload. If it does, then all it would do (again a guess) is bypass those "bytes" until it gets to the IIH. The only way an RFH2 would be passed on to IMS would be if the headers were in the order MD, IIH, RFH2, Payload.
