Hi,
I've just upgraded my 64-bit Solaris server to UDB V8. I'd like to migrate all my V7 DB2 databases to 64-bit but am not sure if the broker will still work.
According to http://www-306.ibm.com/software/integration/wbimessagebroker/requirements/
Support for 64-bit databases (DB2 and Oracle) :
The Broker is a 32-bit application and interacts with 32-bit database libraries. In these Broker environments, our statement of support for databases refers to the database client.
The Broker supports connecting to a 32-bit database client which connects to a 64-bit server. The Broker does not support connecting to a 64-bit database client. This restriction is imposed by both the Broker and the DataDirect drivers.
Is it safe to leave the broker database as 32-bit ? Or it's OK to migrate to 64-bit because all DB2 databases used by the broker are local i.e. they are on the same server as the broker.
Thanks |

You can certainly use a 64-bit database as a broker database, as long as the database client libraries used (libdb2.so and friends) are 32-bit. This can be done by either creating a 32-bit instance and using TCPIP to do the communication, or by using LD_LIBRARY_PATH to point the broker at the lib32 directory of your 64-bit instance.
It is also safe to leave the broker database as 32-bit, if you prefer to do this.
Hope this helps - I've set up various configs using DB2 8 in 64-bit mode, and they work really well. DB2 8 is much nicer than DB2 7, as it allows 32-bit and 64-bit DBMSs to talk to each other . . . _________________ Trevor Dolby

Anybody knows if WMQI 2.1 (yes, we're still on 2.1 !!!) supports UDB V8.2 ? We have to apply FP9 to fix a bug with UDB 8.1 but want to make sure that 8.2 is supported.

It should work if you connect to your db via tcp however if you are binding connections to db2 your 32 bit shared object might not know how to talk to 64 bit instance.
Most importantly beyond whether it will work or not is whether it will be supported by IBM so open up a PMR and double check. _________________ Mikhail Malamud
