From a contractor web site in the UK:

A top agency told us earlier this week what contractors that they desperately need and our readers asked for more info.

The first part is here -

The UK’s top IT staffing agency, with more than 6,000 contractors have added this information.

Update on 28/1/5

In addition to the general categories of Telecoms and Testing that are in great demand, the following skills are also very difficult to find.

1) Websphere/MQSeries

2) SAN/contact admin (Storage Area Networks/Network Attached Storage)

3) .NET Technologies - ASP.NET, VB.NET, & C#

4) Windows 2003, MS Exchange 2003, and Citrix XPE

5) Data Networks & Security - Cisco, Routers, Firewall

Business Knowledge

The key problems that we encounter are not only skills based.

The majority of clients now demand that candidates have the relevant business knowledge together with the technical skills.

For example finding an experienced ASP.NET Developer is not that difficult however if the client requires a candidate with Fixed Income, Equities and ASP.NET experience then it becomes much more problematic.

It is though looking more and more like the year of the candidate.

If anybody has the requisite skills, then it might be worth contacting Lindsay Harrison (
lindsay_Harrison@spring.com ) at Spring Group.
