Hi,

Just some questions, any help is appreciated.

I am currently using MQWF 3.4 on Solaris 8 with Oracle 8i.

1. Is it possible to install multiple copies of MQWF in 1 machine on Solaris?
2. Is it possile to have one copy of MQWF and multiple System Groups in 1 machine on Solaris?
3. Is it possible to have one copy of MQWF and multiple System Groups and multiple Systems in 1 macine on Solaris?

If any of the above are true, are there any related documentation/information? The installation guide did not provide a lot of info on this.

Thanks,
Jimmy

Jimmy:

I can only answer 2 and 3.

Both are NOT possible since each SYSTEMGROUP must exist in its own Domain... So if you want two SYSTEM Groups on a system on any platform, you must define 2 MQWF configurations.

I assume that 1 is True, but I have never really dealt with Solaris... I am sure one of our other members will be able to give you a definitive answer on that question. For all other platforms, I know you can define multiple MQWFs, just never did it on Solaris

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, actually I've noticed I typed something wrong in my initial post. My questions should be:

1. Is it possible to install multiple copies of MQWF in 1 machine on Solaris?
2. Is it possile to have one copy of MQWF and multiple MQWF Systems in 1 machine on Solaris?
3. Is it possible to have one copy of MQWF and multiple System Groups and multiple Systems in 1 macine on Solaris?

(Note: #2 has been changed from my original post.)

The thing that we are trying to do is to run different Authentication Exit (AE) implementations on the same machine concurrently. Since AE is executed by the Administration Server, we can only run one AE implementation per MQWF System.

So the question is whether we can run multiple MQWF Systems on a single Solaris machine. If he answer is yes, there are 2 ways to do it (given a single MQWF Installation)
A. Multiple MQWF Systems in one single System Group
B. 1 MQWF System per System Group and have multiple System Groups.

I'm not sure if A or B are possible, any ideas?

Thanks,
Jimmy

The choice (A) is surely possible, and that is way we generally go about for implementing multiple systems in a Single System Group.

For the choice (B) that you mentioned, is also possible, but additional configuration (as mentioned in earlier note by jmac). But that is uneccessary (i feel) unless there is any specific reason to go for that kind of System Archietecture in your application. Also this will put more load on your host machine.

What you are saying here is correct. So, it may be possible to have a different authentication exit for each System. Since the authentication exit is loaded when the Admin server starts up if you have different AuthenticationExit classes in the class path, it seems to me that this would do what you want. Try it out and let us know.

Thanks

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all your replies, so here is what we have:

1. Is it possible to install multiple copies of MQWF in 1 machine on Solaris?
[NO]

2. Is it possile to have one copy of MQWF and multiple MQWF Systems in 1 machine on Solaris?
A. Multiple MQWF Systems in one single System Group - [YES]
B. 1 MQWF System per System Group and have multiple System Groups. [YES with additional configuration]

3. Is it possible to have one copy of MQWF and multiple System Groups and multiple Systems in 1 macine on Solaris?
[YES with additional configuration]

So it seems 2A is the best choice for my current situation, we'll definately give it a try. As for 2B, what specific additional configuration is necessary? Just wondering.

Thanks,
Jimmy

Unless I am missing something, that would not be possible, since Venny indicates that you can not have multiple MQWF configurations on Solaris

I thought what venny said was you can not do multiple installations, but I dont see why you cant do multiple configurations. I am solaris ignorant though. Venny, clarify please.

Jimmy:

Can you please clarify whether you mean multiple configurations of MQWF or multiple installations of MQWF. I must admit that as I read this I was thinking mutltiple configurations, but now I see Ratan's point, and realize that I am not sure what it is you were asking about.

I have never worked on a Solaris machine, but have done all of the following on the other platforms (AIX, HP-UX and Windows):

1. MQWF is installed.. The following all indicate in thier configuration a Runtime Server.
2. You configure an MQWF Configuration with a new RTDB this will be for a primary system, Domain, and System Group.
3. You configure an MQWF Configuration to add a new System to the existing SystemGroup.
4. You configure an MQWF Configuration which points to a new RTDB, this would be for a different Database, so it would be a new primary System, Domain and System Group.
5. You configure an MQWF Configuration which points to a RTDB on a different system. (i.e a 3-tier installation)

In addition to these you should be able to configure buildtime databases, agents and clients as necessary

What I understood by multiple copies is multiple installations, for example MQWF 3.4 and 3.5 on the same machine. Some products allow to do that. For example DB2. You can have two versions of the product running on the same machine (on UNIX platforms, maybe others but I am not sure).
Similarly there is a way to co-exist WMQI's control center and WBIMB's tool kit on the same machine.

But this is not possible with Workflow (not possible with MQ also).

But other than the fact that you can't install two versions of the product, you can have as many configurations as you want, and as many workflow servers as you want on the same box on Windows, HP AIX Solaris.

Hi,

No problem, I'll re-post my questions:

1. Is it possible to install multiple copies of MQWF in 1 machine on Solaris?
(I'm refering to multiple installations, e.g. MQWF 3.4 and 3.5 on the same machine or 2 MQWF 3.4s)
2. Is it possile to have one copy of MQWF, one System Group and multiple MQWF Systems in 1 machine on Solaris?
3. Is it possible to have one copy of MQWF and multiple System Groups and multiple Systems in 1 macine on Solaris?

Note: The reason why I would like to have 2 installations of MQWF is to have configurations pointing to multiple RTDBs.

Based on answers I got from various replies I think these are the following answers

1) Not possible.
2) Possible.
3) Possible.

jmac,

In your previous post, you had

Quote:
3. You configure an MQWF Configuration to add a new System to the existing SystemGroup
and
5. You configure an MQWF Configuration which points to a RTDB on a different system.

Is 3 and 5 basically the same thing? Because 5 would mean you already have a System Group configured.

Thanks,
Jimmy

Jimmy:

3 would be an existing system group. 5 would be for a new system group, in a 3 tier setup (i.e database is remote to both the primary and secondary workflow systems)

Please correct me if i am wrong,For me both options 3 and 5 seems to be same. Because in both the options we are adding a new system to a existing System Group, hence existing RTDB. In 3, we are having everything (WF Server/ DB)on one machine and in 5, we are adding the System on a different machine, but that is still part of the same System group, but which is existing on different machine.

Please correct me if i am understanding it in correctly.
-Thanks

As I recall when creating a 3 tier, the RTDB is actually created on the remote system during the configuration, so it is my opinion that the System Group does not exist at the point the configuration begins.

This is simply my opinion
