I am trying to edit the data content in a message.
Steps I am taking are:
1. Open the queue
2. Highlight the message
3. Select Edit --> Edit message
4. In the Raw Data tab change the field value I want
5. Select "Save to queue"
I then get an error - "The selected message could not be found / deleted"
Where am I going wrong? |

Hi,
Humm, that's strange.
Go to Help -> About and get the following information:
- Version of MQ Visual Edit
- JVM version
- What OS are you running MQ Visual Edit on?
- Is the queue manager local or remote? If remote, then platform is the queue manager running on?
There was a bug in an previous release of MQ Visual Edit that if a particular combination of low order values showed up in the MsgID field then MQ Visual Edit could not find the message. This has been fixed.
If you are not using the latest version (v1.2.2C) then I strongly suggest that you download the lastest release, uninstall your current version of MQ Visual Edit and then install MQ Visual Edit v1.2.2C.

I uninstalled 1.2.2 and installed 1.2.2C but the problem still seems to be the same.
JVM = 1.4.2_02
Running MQVE on Windows 2000 Professional.
Queue manager is remote on AIX (5200-02). |

Something different is happening now:
1. Edit the message
2. Select 'Save to Queue'
3. Message is highlighted
4. Select 'Refresh' & message disappears.
5. Refresh a few seconds later and the original message is back
6. Backout count in the MQMD has been incremented
Any ideas?
Thank you |

I suspect there is another process servicing the queue. It could be triggered.
Enjoy |

Hi,
I think fjb_saper is onto something here. Is the queue triggered or is there an application running that is consuming messages?
When you open or refresh a queue with MQ Visual Edit, it takes a snapshot of the queue at that particular moment. But for queues that do transactional work, this view can change from 1 second to the next.
Also, if the backout count of a message continous increases then there is either a problem with the application or with the message.

I have finally found time to return to my problem.
I created a new queue specifically to edit the message. No other applications are processing the queue.
1. Open queue
2. Highlight message
3. Select 'Edit' --> 'Edit Message'
4. Edit message on Raw Data table.
5. Select 'File' --> 'Save to queue'
6. Refresh
7. No messages display
8. Close & re-open queue.
9. No messages display
10. Close MQVE and re-open.
11. Message displays and backout count incremented by 1
Any suggestions as to what my problem is? |

Hi,
I have made some enhancements to MQVE in versions 1.3.0 & 1.3.1, so please download the current release 'v1.3.1' of MQ Visual Edit.
- Uninstall your current release of MQ Visual Edit (your property files are not deleted)
- Then install v1.3.1
Now try your actions again and let me know if it now works. If it does not work, then there should be an error.log file in the install directory
i.e. C:\Capitalware\MQ Visual Edit
Please email the file to me.
Regards,
Roger Lacroix
