Has anyone been successful in using the Oracle Instant Client with WBI v5 on a Windows 2k platform.

Trying to add a new Connection in the Data Perspective of the Workbench, I always get an: ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor.

I've tried all the combinations (I can think of) for setting the Database, host, and port.

Also, I can't get the Microsoft ODBC configuration to work either, which means I can't try a Broker connection. That gives me an: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified.

BTW. I can connect successfully using SQLPlus with both an Easy Connection identifier and also a Net Service Name, so I know the connection can be made.

Any pointers how I can convince WBI to connect.

Cheers,

EddieA,

When you finish configuring the Database Connection panel, what is displayed in Connection URL, should look like jdbc:oracle:thin:@server:port:instance?

Yes, I get: jdbc:oracle:thin@WEBQA1:3800:webqa.world. However, I'm not 100% sure what I should be putting in the Database field. Here's my tnsnames.ora entry:
Code:
WEBQA.<MYDOMAIN>.COM =
 (DESCRIPTION =
   (ADDRESS_LIST =
     (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = WEBQA1)(PORT = 3800))
   )
   (CONNECT_DATA =
     (SERVICE_NAME = webqa.world)
   )
 )

I also solved the ODBC configuration, so I have an entry called ECDEV that successfully connects to this DB.

** Update ** Solved it. The Database name is just: webqa.

Cheers,
