Hi,

I am trying to install MQ version 5.3 on 2 nodes in a Microsoft cluster (MSCS). The documentation says that MQserver should be installed on both nodes and a queue manager must be created with its log files on the local drive and them the logs should be migrated to the shared drive.

Now, do I have to create a queue manager on both machines or only on one of them? I am not sure if the migration tool will create the queue manager on the second node?

If the queue manager has to be created on both nodes and I migrate the log files on one of them on the shared drive, what should I do with the logs of the queue manager on the other node (since the logs are on the local drive on the second node)?

Can someone please clarify this for me?

Thank you all,

Sas

Only one.

It will the first time you move the group from the primary node (where you actually defined the QM) to the secondary node.

Thanks for the reply.

I am following the documentation and it says to create a Resource type of "IBM Websphere MQ MSCS" in Cluster Administration but I do not see this option in the dropdown box?!?! I am using MQ Server 5.3 and as far as I know (very limited!) there is no need to install a supportPack to handle MSCS clustering.

Did I miss something?

Yeah, this one got me too. The manuals completly miss this point. The WebSphere contact admin Center (installed on a Windows machine when MQ is installed) has a LOT of stuff on MSCS.

If you look there you will find the following:
Quote:

6. Close the MSCS Cluster Administrator and the WebSphere MQ Explorer on both computers.

7. Register the new ResourceType IBM WebSphere MQ MSCS with MSCS by entering the following at a command prompt:-

haregtyp /r

8. Repeat Step 7 on the other computer before proceeding.

If you created a QM resource before doing the above, you will have to delete and then recreate the QM resource in MSCS (not the actual QM) to get this to show up and work for you.

MQ 5.3 Windows 2003 MSCS clustering

I am 'Putting a q mgr under MSCS control'. I have registered the libraries with 'haregtyp /r'. I still don't see a resource type of 'IBM WebSphere MQ MSCS'. I see 'IBM MQSeries MSCS'. Is this what I should use? If not why don't I see the other? Thanks
