Hi,
I would like to update the process instance description from a UPES.
From what I can see:
The instance description is set from the template description at start time.
and there is an API to set the instance description.
I am using the web client and a UPES written in java, is there anyway to set the process instance description from a UPES?
Ideally, I would like to update the process instance description as each process instance progresses to give users a better summary of what stages their processes are currently at.
Thanks all |

Jonathon:
It is my opinion that this can not be done. In order to do this you would need to change the contents of the Input container (Source) to the Process Instance. I will admit that I have never tried this, but I would imagine that you could not update the input container as it is a ReadOnlyContainer. You could run a little test, but I am thinking that even with converting the container to a ReadWriteContainer this will not work.
If you try, let us know the results.

Hi,
I never tried it, but your UPES could run a little MQWF client program that
logs in and calls ProcessInstance::SetDescription().
Not very performant I guess. |

As usual, Volker hits the nail on the head... I shouldn't answer posts before my morning caffine fix.
I am not sure about performance, but the setDescription is a much easier way to get this done, than what I was thinking of doing. BTW... I did test this and it worked fine. _________________ John McDonald
