If I have an MQ Server Windows box, which has a queue manager running on it called DALLAS.QUEUE.MANAGER, and it belongs to Cluster DALCLUSTER, I was asked to perform the following:
Setup another Windows box and install MQ on it. Make the new setup on that box exactly like what is on the DALLAS.QUEUE.MANAGER, including naming all the queues, channels, and the QM the same as what is on DALLAS.QUEUE.MANAGER, and have it join the DALCLUSTER.
This is not possible, correct? I cannot have 2 QMs with the same name, on the same cluster, with the same queue names and channels, even though they reside on different Windows servers, correct?
What would be the best way of handling this?
Thanks,

One more thing, they want to do this so that they can simply shut down the first server that currently has MQ on it, and move to the other one without changing any MQ component name references in their applications. |

Not possible if you expect your cluster to work.
The only way to do this is to have a Mocrosoft Hardware Cluster, where DALLAS.QUEUE.MANAGER is running on Node1. You can then use the MSCS software to "failover" DALLAS.QUEUE.MANAGER from Node1 to Node2. It will be the same QM running on the second server. It cannot run on 2 servers concurrently. It will maintain the same QM_ID regardless of which server it is on. _________________ Peter Potkay

Thanks Peter. Currently it is running in a Windows Clustered failover environment on NTCLUSTER1A and 1B. They want me to have the same setup on NTCLUSTER2A and 2B, but I don't think this is possible, because it would be running concurrently with the 1A and 1B. I have to name the queue manager differently for this to work. |
