I am running Buildtime and server on a local machine, Windows 2000. Just getting started with Workflow and followed the example in the IBM RedBook "MQSeries Workflow for Windows NT for Beginners"

The simple sample defined in the book has a program defined that writes a couple of text files using a .bat file (Invoice and Shipping List). I can run this bat file from a DOS command prompt and the files are created. However, if I try to execute the process inside the MQWF client, no files are created.

I assume this is a permission thing but I am logged with a Workflow ID that matches the ID and password of a system administrator. I tried altering what ID was used to start the MQWF service but it did not seem to help. Any quick advice for other things to look at?

Thanks,

Paul

Paul,

I am not familiar with this Red Book, but my first guess would be that you
did not define the activity to run automatically so that there is a workitem
created in state READY waiting to be started.
Another guess is that you do not have started the Program Execution Agent(PEA)
for the user who has to process the workitem.

What kind of feedback do you get from your process start command? What is the
process state / workitem state?
Are you able to start a different .bat activity implementation that does more
simple things?

Hi,

I understand that you are using two .bat files to create the invoice and shipping list. In the path and file name parameter give the complete Dos path name of the .bat file name.

Murthy.

Murthy, Volker -

Thanks for the help!! The answer was that I had not specified the entire path to the .cmd file so it was not executing. The Redbook had suggested that if the executable was in the path statement you should be ok and that the bin directory under workflow would certainly be in the path statement. May be a problem with the way I'm installed but when I specify the whole path, it now works. Thanks again for the help! I knew it was something simple.
