Need some Channel Help
We are experiencing a situation where a receiver channel remains in a running state while the sending channel goes inactive.
The next time the sending channel attempts to start, it can't due to the receiver channel still running from before.
We can get the channels going again by stopping the receiver, stopping the sender, starting the receiver and then starting the sender…..
Both boxes are Windows, the sending box is MQ 5.1 …… the receiving box is MQ 5.3. Unfortunately cannot upgrade the 5.1 box in near future.
5.3 has CSD05.
Any help please?????? |

RBean,
On the QMGR that is having the receiver channel not stopping check the AdoptNewMCA & AdoptNEWMCACheck.
There are several options to choose from to allow a sender channel to re-establish communications. The options are more a a security measure. If you aren't concerned too much and have trusted source use ALL for both of them. Otherwise you'll have to do some reading to determine what you want to go with....

Implement Heartbeats on the channel. Set it to something like 30. Once the RCVR fails to receive the HB from the other side, it will go Inactive.
(This assumes Heartbeats were available at 5.1)
For cases where HBs fail, or are N/A, make sure KeepAlive is turned on for the QM.
Set DISCINT to a reasonable value (I use 120). If there have been no messages coming over the channel for a while, let it shutdown and put both sides into Inactive, instead of waiting for a network failure to cut your channel.
If you get in this situation before DISCINT or HB can do their thing, then AdoptMCA on the recieving side will allow a new RCVR channel instance to be spawned.
All 4 should be used together.
Do a search on these parameters on this site, with my name for the author. There is a ton of stuff out here already. _________________ Peter Potkay
