Hi,
We still use CVS Eclipse Client for version control of our source code.
We wish to upgrade to IBM ACE 13.0.3 (from ACE 12.0. and have encountered problems when trying to add the CVS Eclipse Plug In.
I have tried to add it using "Help -> Install New Software" , "Add repository" and going to
However, this results in the dependency error below -
"Cannot complete the install because of a conflicting dependency.
Software being installed: Eclipse CVS Client 1.4.302.v20170301-0400 (org.eclipse.cvs.feature.group 1.4.302.v20170301-0400)
Software currently installed: IBM App Connect Enterprise Toolkit 13.0.3.0 (com.ibm.etools.iib.toolkit.feature.group 13.0.3.0)
Only one of the following can be installed at once:
CVS Team Provider Core 3.4.0.v20160418-1534 (org.eclipse.team.cvs.core 3.4.0.v20160418-1534)"
I opened a PMR with IBM on this and they advised that "This change in compatibility with the CVS Support plugin was caused by an upgrade in the plugins used by the ACE Toolkit in version 13.0.2.0." and that "the CVS Support Plugin was discontinued after Eclipse 4.22 back in 2021 and the customer's existing method of installing it has relied on the current version of Eclipse and its plugins in the ACE Toolkit being backwards compatible with the plugin from Eclipse 4.22"
Has anyone encountered and overcome this issue previously? Is CVS still being used by some people here for version control or are we a complete outlier in still using it?
Using CVS is definitely a 'minority sport' these days.
I recommend that you migrate to Git. It's a little more complicated than CVS but for everyday tasks you can use a few simple commands. Note that Git does not support the insertion of version keywords into your files - that is no longer a best practice. There are better ways of accomplishing the same goals.
Eclipse has excellent built-in support for Git repositories, so the plugins will not be a problem. _________________ Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away, and you have their shoes too.
